geta, good for walking, but not in todays rain

I came on a short trip to Kyoto, arriving last night having taken the shinkansen from Tokyo with family. It was raining when we arrived but eager to see the town we headed out and took a few snaps.

These were taken in the rain with a new camera so I'm not sure how they turned out. I can't see them on a good screen as I have just a laptop to work with here. Hopefully, the photos capture a little of the atmosphere of this great city, Kyoto.

I have traveled to Kyoto many times during my time in Japan. It remains my favorite city to visit, and I may consider moving there in the future.

I used to visit Kyoto years ago and always liked walking down Pontocho. It is one of the older parts of town with a rich history and has many tea houses lining the riverbank side. You can often see Maiko walking down Pontocho heading to work in the evening.

It was warm despite the rain with the temperature in the high 20's. Kyoto is like a basin with mountains on all sides. That means hot and muggy in summer, cold in winter. It's beauty wins you over though!

This was a nice surprise after a long walk in the rain. It is quite easy to find girls wearing traditional kimonos or yukatas in Kyoto, but catching this glimpse of the old with the new trying to hide from the rain, was great.

Planning to get some rest and then go to some of the Sites tomorrow. Should have better pictures during the day time, although the weather report says rain.

Hope you enjoy these brief Kyoto reports whilst I am visiting. I will be back in Tokyo next week.
