A beautiful old style bridge crossing the moat at the Imperial Palace.
Liked these colors on the bridge structure. There is a really nice mix of water and buildings in this area of Tokyo. One of the many older buildings around Tokyo Station which as been preserved and incorporated into the development of a new taller building. Can you see the old building roof meeting the new glass building on the right side? This is a nice park area with restaurant building and view back to Tokyo.Fantastic water feature here in this park. The skyline looking back to Tokyo Station. Who can spot Shin Maru Building? One of the many old structures built into the wall of the moat.A side entrance gate to the Palace grounds. The weather was unusually warm and this snake seems to have come out from somewhere. Unusual to see a snake in central Tokyo.Palace guard recruits reporting in after being outside the gates. The buildings at Tokyo Station seen through the park.More skyline.A little bit of sakura color on the moat walls.A nice blend of the old and the new.The grounds surrounding the Palace are quite spacious. Can you see Tokyo Tower in the distance?Another look at the Tokyo landscape. It really is quite different to say looking at New York. The track around the Imperial Palace is popular for runners all day long. On weekends with good weather it is particularly busy. Many runners enjoying the great day.Nice looking tree in the grounds.Great place to take a nap or catch up on the some reading. Many people having picnics on this sunny day.Looking back at the buildings. Some of the old brick structures really have some character about them. One of the new fashionable roads redeveloped along with the buildings.

Wonderful photos, well it brings back memories :), I visited the Imperial Palace Outer Ground back in 2008, when I was in Tokyo with some friends :), after the visit there we walked all the way to Shibuya, a really nice Experience.

Ah, the Imperial palace gardens ! I planned to visit them the day after I came to Tokyo last year, then going to Nihonbashi and finally Ginza. But I overslept, and only went to the gardens at 3 PM. At that time, the light was already low, it felt like it was late afternoon already, so not the best conditions to take photos. I also rushed a bit through Marunouchi and Nihonbashi, and the night was already falling when I arrived at Ginza. But that was nice. All those neon lights... :)

Japanese moat walls are such a beautiful example of going that extra bit creatively, even with something as functional as a stone wall. Those curves leading up to the shapes of the buildings are so feminine but strong at the same time.
Looks like the perfect place for an afternoon/lunchbreak kip. It's the only city I can imagine that's safe enough for that!
